A Santaquin police officer was struck and killed by a semi-truck Sunday morning.
The incident occurred sometime before 8 a.m. on May 5 on Interstate 15 near milepost 244 in Santaquin.
At 8:30 a.m., Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Wright said both directions on Interstate 15 will be closed for some time in the area of the crash.
The driver of the semi reportedly fled after striking the officer.

A shelter-in-place was issued for Mona, Payson, and Santaquin while authorities searched for the suspect in this incident.
MONA, Utah — A shelter-in-place was issued for residents of Monda Sunday morning.
Mona City representatives shared the shelter-in-place issued by the Juab County Sheriff’s Office around 8:20 a.m. on May 5.
“All Mona residents shelter in place for a dangerous suspect in the area,” the statement read.
Officials described the suspect as a white man with an unkempt beard and brown hair. He was listed at 6′ and 200 pounds.
The suspect was last seen wearing a grey sweater, black shoes, and white socks.
